ABOUT THE LAB
The Thomas Napolitano Digital Art Studio was made possible
thanks to a generous donation from Thomas and Barbara Napolitano.
Mr. Napolitano is a college alumnus of Georgetown University
from the class of 1969. The Studio was open for classes on
January 12, 2000.
The initial gift proposal was an initiative of Professor John
Morrell and Professor Elizabeth Prelinger, Chair of the Art,
Music and Theater Department at the time.
The concept behind the new studio class room was to expand
the curriculum of the Studio Art program to include the latest
electronic media technologies to be employed as a means of
artistic expression. The studio also provides a venue for
the integration of traditional art forms with 21st century
multimedia artistic practices.
With the addition of this facility, Georgetown College initiated
a tenure track faculty position in Digital Arts and Photography.
After an international search during the 1999-2000 academic
year, Professor Roberto Bocci was invited to join the Georgetown
faculty in order to develop this new area in Studio Art.
In addition to Studio Art classes the facility provided a
resource for all faculty and students to develop multimedia
projects.
